View PowerPoint Files without Installing PowerPoint

PowerPoint 2010 is a powerful presentation tool from Office 2010, but people who have not installed Office suite might not be able to open and view PowerPoint files.

So Microsoft has released a PowerPoint Viewer which allows users who do not have Office installed on their PCs to view PowerPoint presentation. PowerPoint Viewer lets you view full-featured presentations created in PowerPoint 97 and later versions.

First Step right click on any slide and click on the help to get the navigational shortcuts for the PowerPoint viewer.

This viewer also supports opening password-protected Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. You can view and print presentations, but you cannot edit them in the PowerPoint Viewer.

PowerPoint Viewer registers with the .ppt, .pptx, .pptm, .pot, .potx, .potm, .pps, .ppsx and .ppsm file extensions only if a version of PowerPoint is not installed on your computer.

If registered, double-clicking on these file types will launch PowerPoint Viewer.

You can download the PowerPoint viewer from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=048dc840-14e1-467d-8dca-19d2a8fd7485&displaylang=en

As far as I know, it only works on Windows and it is quite a download (25MB). You might want to consider a website like http://www.authorstream.com instead of the PowerPoint viewer.
When you upload your PowerPoint file to authorSTREAM, it simply converts it in Flash format which you can 'embed' in your blog or website. They have other sharing options too.
Now, Flash is good because it works on all platforms - Windows, Mac, Linux etc. and there are not downloads to be done by viewers.

Hope this helps!
