I think Visual effect can be a very important part of your presentation but not just some kind of decoration. You can convert your presentation to video so that it can bring more opportunities to make it widely spread. The presentation in video can be uploaded to video sharing site, transferred to mobile phones and even burned to DVD as backup.

Either you can try authorSTREAM to convert your PowerPoint files in WMV, AVI ,FLV or MP4 or use PowerPoint 2010 to convert your PowerPoint presentations in video.

IMHO, the best way to convert PPT to video is by using Camtasia Studio despite its steep price. Moyea is good, but even Moyes doesn't turn up good conversion especially when there is fast animations.

I've recently done a clip art animation using PowerPoint, then Camtasia, which I then uploaded to YouTube:

To GeniusDwight's comprehensive list let me add 2 more. Both are free and very good.

You also can convert PowerPoint to video format with windows media maker.
Save the presentation as multiple images and then import them to Window Movie Maker. Then you can save it as video.
Pros:
**FREE
**No need to download other software. This tool is part of Windows operating system.
Cons:
** The transitions, animations in your original PowerPoint will not be retained.

I use Wondershare PowerPoint to DVD converter to burn PowerPoint presentation to DVD directly with good quality!
And you also can convert PowerPoint to popular video format with multimedia files and animations.

I use this tool to convert my PowerPoint presentations to video: Acoolsoft PPT to Video

There are up to 130 output video formats available in this tool. Also, the output video quality is nice, all the visual elements I add to PowerPoint can be retained.

There is also a tool called PPT to DVD from Acoolsoft that enables us to burn PowerPoint to DVD.
