That's right, PowerPoint 2010 has several features. However, if I'm not mistaken, the video can be created in only WMV format. If anyone wants to embed it as a flash file (not Silverlight as perhaps Microsoft wants), then the WMV video has to be converted to say MP4 flash format.

Another problem is that an inserted video in a PPT slide cannot be made to extend over the next slides. This is unlike inserting audio clip that can easily play over elected number of slides.

Nevertheless, PPT 2010 is really good, and if you can work around the problems you can indeed make a good video. I've attempted some in my blog. Below is a link to one of them.

@Partha:
Yes Powerpoint 2010 cannot support AVI and MP4 format, but authorSTREAM allows you to Insert your own videos in PowerPoint and even supports AVI, WMV, MPEG, MPG and few other video formats in addition to WAV and MP3 audio formats.

PowerPoint To Video Conversion is also a feature of PowerPoint 2010. PowerPoint 2010 converts your Presentations in to Videos.

Steps to create a video:
1. Click the Office button and then go to the Share > Create a Video Option.
2. Set the effects for the output video, you can choose between High Quality, Medium Quality or Low Quality .
3. You can enable/disable the settings for record timing and narrations from the Don't Use Recorded Timings and Narrations option.
4. Now select the time which should be spent on each slide from the Second to spend on each slide option.
5. Finally click the Create Video button, and save your video file.
