Make your PowerPoint presentations interactive

by Willem Karssenberg
Posted on 05 February, 2010

Mouse Mischief is a tool that Microsoft makes available free of charge, and that allows teachers to work with Microsoft Office PowerPoint to make interactive presentations. With Mouse Mischief, teachers can add multiple choice questions to their presentations, and large groups of students can answer the questions using mice connected to the teachers PC.

Mouse Mischief not only gives students the ability to engage, have fun, and learn in new, interactive ways, but it also provides teachers with a more affordable alternative to purchasing expensive student response systems, commonly known as clickers, by letting students use affordable wired or wireless USB mice that their school already own.

You can find more info and the download at:

I've tried it myself and it's really fun!

@Willem Karssenberg thank you for the tip. Mouse Mischief seems to be a great tool. Most of the PowerPoint users have been making use of features like action buttons, triggers and motion path animations to create such interactive slideshows.

Unfortunately, Microsoft Mouse Mischief is only for the PC. Does anyone know of a similar product for the Mac?

How would one go about connecting wired mice to the teacher's computer?

by Willem Karssenberg posted on 26 February, 2010

I've bought a 10 ports usb hub with adapter. To that I could add 5 more usb hubs with 4 ports each. That way I can connect up to 25 mice!

My students have their own wireless laptops. Can they just use their own equipment with this program? Do I need to have them download a program to interact with my computer and this Mouse Mischief enabled ppt ? I haven't downloaded the program yet because I really wasn't sure how to adapt it to the wireless PC's my kids have?

Thanks for the info, William. I think I can go with it from here.

@Pat,

It's not possible to connect other computers (wireless or not) to the computer running Mouse Mischief.
The whole idea is that it is meant for countries / situations where there is not enough budget for a computer per pupil.
Mouse Mischief enables more children to work together using just one computer and some extra mice...
